Liverpool

If you're searching for a social anxiety support group in Liverpool, there are two free places to start. WalkTheTalk runs an online peer support group every Monday at 8pm, open to anyone in the UK and already joined by people from Liverpool. On the NHS, Talking Therapies Liverpool takes self-referrals from anyone aged 16 or over who's registered with a Liverpool GP.

Liverpool isn't always an easy city to live in with social anxiety. The centre is compact and walkable, so you're rarely far from someone you half-know. There's the squeeze onto a Merseyrail train at Liverpool Central, the 699 bus packed with students heading back to Greenbank, and a city with two huge football clubs and countless gig venues. Going out is a big part of how people here connect, and turning down invitations week after week gets lonely.

None of that means something is wrong with you. Social anxiety is common, and it can ease with the right support. Whether you want social anxiety help in Liverpool this week, or wider anxiety support while you work out what's right for you, everything below is free or low-cost.

Confidence is a muscle. WalkTheTalk is about giving you an easy, low-stakes way to train yours. Every Monday at 8pm

HOW IT WORKS

Small steps. Real people. No pressure.

Every Monday at 8pm, you join a small group online. Here’s what happens.

8:00 - 8:10

Check in honestly

Everyone shares briefly how the week's gone. There's no pressure to say more than you want to, especially the first time.

8:10 - 8:40

Share a win and a struggle

This is where the real conversation happens - sharing what's on your mind with people who understand without needing an explanation.

8:40 - 8:50

Leave with one thing to try

Pick one small thing to practice before next Monday - a concrete action. If time, we try social anxiety icebreakers to keep the conversation going.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a social anxiety support group in Liverpool?

Yes. WalkTheTalk runs a free online social anxiety support group every Monday from 8pm to 9pm, and people from Liverpool already come along. It's one UK-wide group rather than a Liverpool-only meeting, so you join by video call from wherever you are. You'll be in a small breakout room of 5-6 people who are all living with social anxiety too.

How do I get help for social anxiety on the NHS in Liverpool?

You can refer yourself to NHS Talking Therapies Liverpool, run by Mersey Care, without seeing your GP first. It's free for anyone aged 16 or over who's registered with a Liverpool GP. Fill in the self-referral form at merseycare.nhs.uk/talking-therapies-liverpool or call 0151 228 2300. They offer CBT, including approaches designed specifically for social anxiety.

Is WalkTheTalk free?

Yes, WalkTheTalk is completely free. You don't need a referral, a diagnosis or a GP appointment to join, and there's no waiting list. If you're living with social anxiety anywhere in the UK, you can sign up and come to the next Monday session at 8pm. Wondering whether it might help is reason enough to try it.

What happens at a WalkTheTalk session?

Each Monday session starts with a check-in, and then you move into a breakout room of 5-6 people. You talk about how your week went and anything coming up that feels hard, and you leave with one small thing to try before next time. Sharing is always optional, so you can just listen for as long as you need to.

Is peer support the same as therapy?

No. Peer support is people with lived experience helping each other, not treatment from a trained therapist. WalkTheTalk isn't therapy and doesn't replace it. It sits well alongside NHS therapy or CBT, though. You can use the group to practise what you're learning in therapy, or to stay connected while you wait for treatment to start.

Will I meet people from Liverpool?

Yes. Liverpool members already come to the Monday sessions, alongside people from across the UK. For now it's one online group, so you won't always share a breakout room with someone local. WalkTheTalk is investing in local connection, with community socials, meetups and eventually city-based groups. We'll share Liverpool dates only once they're confirmed.
